Jesus can suck it, this comedienne is my god now!

Posted by Chris on 21 November, 2008

kathy-griffin1Last night was the Kathy Griffin show at the Paramount. We’ve watched her reality show, My Life on the D-List, every season and seen most of her stand-up routines on Bravo. Nothing really compares to seeing her in person though. We were in the balcony so weren’t any of the “upscale gays” in the front few rows, but the beauty of the Paramount is that there really isn’t a bad seat in the house.

She is just as energetic and crazy in person as she seems on television. One thing that I love about her routine is that she really just makes it seem like she’s having a conversation with 2800 of her closest friends. It’s a two hour gossip session where she sometimes has to catch herself to remember everything she wants to tell you. As thoughts cross her mind she’s off on a tangent that eventually worms its way back to the original topic. She’s as funny as ever and my stomach ached by the time we left the theater from so much laughing.

Prior to the show we had dinner at Machiavelli’s Ristorante, an italian place up on Capital Hill. I’ve been by this place a billion times and always wondered if it was good, well it is. We had a very enjoyable dinner before walking a few blocks down to the Paramount. Definitely somewhere that I would return to for dinner before an event. I think that several others had the same idea as I recognized a few people at the theater from the restaurant. With only about 15 tables and not taking reservations you’ll need to get there early in order to get out in time to catch the curtain. I had the gnocchi which can be either amazingly light and fluffy or disgustingly dense and gummy. Luckily my gnocchi last night was of the amazing quality and will entice me to come back and try some of their other dishes. Bryan’s spinach raviolli was delicious as well. We finished our meal with the largest piece of tiramisu I’ve ever seen, another test of a good italian restaurant and Machiavelli’s succeded in this as well.

All in all it was a great night, a delicous meal followed by a great show, to quote Kathy “sold out motherfuckers!”. Machiavelli’s Ristorante gets four stars in my restaurant rating scale.

4-stars

    I FUCKING LOVE HER. allegedly.

  3. Dude! Machiavelli’s rocks! That was the restaurant I always took the guy when I knew things were getting serious. And I’ve heard so much about her live performances. I hope to someday boast that I’ve seen her too. She really is a goddess.

We saw her Saturday night and loved it. But I’m going to be a snarky little bitch here. Of course I love her, but, ahem, I thought she went on waaay too long about her aging mother. It just wasn’t all funny. And it struck me how poor a town Seattle is to do the celeb dish thing, although the way Kathy does it is the gem of the humor.

Lewis ~ she took lessons from you
Cyrus ~ is only she were a man or I were a lesbian!
Steve ~ we were impressed and will be back
    Jewelz ~ that’s what I said too!
Libhomo ~ I’m honored and will get a post up passing it on this week
    Dirk ~ :)
David ~ definitely a must try
NW ~ I thought that there was a lot about Maggie too, but maybe because we’ve seen all the DList episodes and love how dead on she is about her mother, or maybe because we (knock wood) don’t have to deal with elderly parents yet or maybe because we’re just sick fucks – but I actually thought that was the funniest part of her act.
