Obama’s *still* gonna raise your taxes
Posted by Chris on 13 October, 2008
For the few people out there who still actually believe Republican McCain’s bullshit cry of higher taxes under Obama here it is again in black and white. Lifted in it’s entirety from Parade Magazine*, here is the straight talk on taxes according to the Tax Policy Center. Seems really simple if you ask me, find your income and look to see who saves you more money.
Under Obama’s plan Bryan and I will save a total of $2,382 while under Republican McCain’s plan we would save $1,319. A grand total savings of $1,063 under Obama’s plan – explain to me exactly how McCain’s plan is going to benefit me…
| Obama | McCain | |
| If you make… | you’d save… |
you’d save… |
| less than $19,000 | $567 | $21 |
| $19,000-$37,600 | $892 | $118 |
| $37,600-$66,400 | $1118 | $325 |
| $66,400-$111,600 | $1264 | $994 |
| $111,600-$161,000 | $2135 | $2584 |
| $161,000-$227,000 | $2796 | $4437 |
| If you’re in the top 5% of earners… | you’d pay an extra… |
you’d save… |
| $227,000-$603,400 | $121 | $8159 |
| $603,400-$2.87 million | $93,709 | $48,862 |
| more than $2.87 million | $542,882 | $290,708 |

If your annual salary is less than $112,000, you’d pay less in taxes under Obama’s plan; if your salary is higher, McCain would cut your taxes more. “While the aggregate tax cut is bigger for McCain, a larger number of voters get more money under Obama,” says Alan Viard, a tax-policy expert at the conservative American Enterprise Institute. “Obama is choosing to emphasize tax cuts for the middle class, whereas McCain’s strategy is to keep rates lower at the top as a way to facilitate long-run growth.” For example, a person with an income of $1 million could see his taxes increase under Obama by as much as $94,000, whereas under McCain’s plan he could save about $48,000.

I save less under Obama than McCain, but I don’t have a problem paying taxes. It’s all about the social issues for me.

Thanks for posting this. I can’t believe the Republicans are STILL getting to believe that old “He’s gonna raise yer taxes” BS. Why do they keep falling for it??? Damn sheeple!

There is a calculator out there, too, that basically does the same, and with Obama, it shows my taxes less. Even if it didn’t, he’d get my vote.

Avitable ~ there’s no amount of money I could make that would make me overcome the problems I have with the Republican’s social platform
Lewis ~ us po’ folk gotta stick together! Not all of us can live in ivory towers with 27 servants like that sexy gorilla Avitable.
Scooter ~ it’s the magic of the catch phrase – “Democrats raise taxes”, “Vote Yes to Save the Children”, etc
Maggie ~ the information is all over the place if only people would pay attention to it and yep, no way I’d vote for McCain even if Obama *was* going to raise my taxes.

hey I see the “Stone of Tears” in your sidebar–have you read any of the Song of Fire and Ice books by George RR Martin? I *highly* recommend them.
Also, there’s talk of the Goodkind novels being made into a tv series by Sam Raimi.
ok, that’s all i’ve got.
have a nice day.

Hey now, I only have 24 servants.

Jeremy ~ I haven’t read the Martin books, but I’ve heard good things about them from people. Yes, I knew about the tv show, that’s why I started rereading the series – that and I’m three books from being caught up and I’d kind of forgotten what had happened in the first few…
Avitable ~ oh that’s right I forgot that you sacrificed three of them to your vengeful god
