Watch this!

I didn’t know much about the Keating 5 Savings and Loan scandal that is swirling around Republican John McCain. If you’re in the same boat, take 13 minutes out of your life and watch the embedded video, I found it to be quite interesting. Believe it or not, this may very well be one of the most important elections of our generation. Imagine how the 20th Century would have turned out if FDR had’t won his first term. Obama is the only candidate qualified to lead us out of the financial crises that the last 7.5 years of Republican mismanagement have lead to.

oh come on, don’t be such a pussy. don’t you really think that Sarah is even remotely maverick enough to put her best tit forward and take us into 2009 and beyond?

Hit piece of Swift-boat proportions.
Listen, I was in DC at the time, where White House and Congressional news WAS local news, on a daily basis (for three hours each evening).
The highlighted sentence in the documents shown in this video show the only thing he was “convicted” (not actually) of. “Showed poor judgment.” What the piece doesn’t say, is that of the “Keating Five”, McCain was the ONLY Republican, and also that the prosecutor suggested that he (and one of the other defendants – a democrat), have charges dropped.
The House Committee chair denied that request, because it would then be a Democratic Party only problem – and well, we couldn’t have that now could we? May I remind you that the Democrats were in the majority in Congress at the time.
This is a canard, much like Ayers, Wright, and that Witch-doctor from Africa.
Is it the best we can do? Really?

Mike ~ when all this happened I was in college and not too terribly interested in national politics anyway, so you do have a unique perspective.
The highlighted document accuses him of showing poor judgment which would be hard to disagree with. What I got from the piece was that McCain has shown poor judgment when it comes to financial matters in the past and he’s doing it again. As a supporter and promoter of deregulation he’s part of the reason we’ve reached the situation we’re currently in.
In my opinion the only reason this came up now is because of the financial meltdown, without that I’m thinking that we could have made it into November without hearing too much about the Keating 5.
The party in power and the party of the players doesn’t factor into it for me personally. McCain took money from someone directly affected by his decisions and actions, this person was directly responsible for the meltdown of Lincoln S&L. I think that has bearing on the current political discussion. It shows that at the very least McCain has very poor judgment…
In my mind it’s different from Ayers, Wright and the witch-doctor because this is documented in a Congressional hearing. Sure, it may only have been poor judgment that he was “guilty of”, but come on – don’t you think he should have learned a lesson or two? Even two year olds learn not to touch the stove after the first time – usually.
As always, I value your input and opinion I’m just going to have to disagree with you.
