Queer Liberal Ranting from Seattle

*sigh*

Posted by Chris on 1 October, 2008

Today is WTF Wednesday, but there’s just so much out there lately that makes my jaw drop and say WTF! that I can’t even begin to craft a list.

I wonder how many banks we’ll be left with once the dust on this crisis settles? One good thing that might come out of this implosion is raising the limit of FDIC insured bank accounts. Not that it matters to me, but it sure would be nice to know that more than 100k in a single account would be insured. I’m not sure what I think about the bailout/rescue. Part of me wants it to go through so that the economy will stabilize, but part of me isn’t sure that this will stabilize anything. A larger part of me thinks that the bailout should be given to the people, at least then we’d have some ownership in the obscenely huge amount of money that we’re talking about. I heard on the radio today that if you took 100 dollar bills and stacked them one on top of each other the amount of the bailout would result in a pile of bills 7 miles high. I’m not sure that I can even fathom that idea.

Work has been crazy busy the last couple of weeks and as you all know that’s a dramatic change for me. We have a major “dot upgrade” coming out for the product I train later this quarter, so I’m of course heavily involved in revamping the training documentation and so on prior to that release. We also have two integrations to the main product that are upgrading next week which also require a complete revamp of the training materials. Some of you will have guessed what that means. I get the complete and utter joy of working with both MPP and GH on a close and personal basis this week as well as next week. I can hardly contain my joy. I also have more meetings this week and next then I think I’ve had in the last three months. Could you guess that I’m a tad bit cranky about this? At least the stress of the company being sold is over. An announcement was made a few weeks ago that we had been sold to a large Canadian company. We don’t know what the future holds yet so I’m dusting off my resume and starting to look. Anyone in the Seattle metro area need an awesome, experienced technical software trainer who likes to blog more than work?

I went and saw the oral surgeon again yesterday. You may remember that in June I went in to have a spot on my tongue looked at and the oral surgeon couldn’t find the spot that my dentist had originally seen. Well when I went to have my teeth cleaned four weeks ago my dentist saw the spot again. So off to the oral surgeon I went again and this time she saw the spot and in fact found another one on the other side of my tongue. I’m scheduled to have them removed on October 17th so that should be interesting. I haven’t told the R4BB yet since I walked in this morning and had to jump onto a conference call. He should be thrilled to hear that I won’t be able to talk well for several days since he rarely wants to hear what I have to say anyway. The chances are very good that these spots are nothing, but since I smoked for 15 years that puts me in a much higher risk category for problems so off to be biopsied they’ll go.

We had dinner with our friends P&B on Saturday night, I mentioned them last week as our friends who are in their 80s. P’s problems are even worse than they were a few months ago, she’s deteriorating quickly. I watched my grandfather disappear into Alzheimer’s and I fear that’s the direction she’s headed. It’s so hard to see someone you care about going through this horrible process.

In conclusion (this short post turned into more quickly), I’m still taking massive amounts of fish oil and I still smell fishy from time to time, but it’s helping my eczema so I don’t really care. My sushi buddy S is off this week so no sushi Thursday. No sushi makes Chris a cranky cranky boy! With that I now return you to your regularly scheduled inane postings.

I take fish oil daily for the heart…..I can only take it after eating or the odorless kind. As for your little tongue deal (that doesn’t sound good, I know)….I had a spot on the roof of my mouth removed about 10 years ago….weird, these things in each of us!

Lewis ~ I started taking fish oil for my heart/cholesterol, but the skin benefits have been a side bonus! Twins separated at birth I tell yah!

    No Sushi?

Just give in, man. It isn’t worth it.

  4. Every time I hear different ways to consider 700 billion I’m more convinced that I can’t conceive of it. I also do not know what the answer is, but something is terribly broken.

The tongue thing sounds really painful, and my heart breaks for your friends. If I was a little further north, I’d make the sushi situation right because that’s wrong, too.

Cb ~ thanks, I’m anticipating that it will really cut down on the quality of my sexlife if I have no tongue…
