Is it a popularity contest?

Posted by Chris on 22 September, 2008

Reading through the various poll sites it looks like a dead heat between Republican McCain and Obama. The overall average shows Obama with 45.5% and Republican McCain with 44.0%. Much closer than I ever would have imagined.

One thing that we need to keep in mind is that the popular vote doesn’t determine the winner of the election. What really counts is the Electoral College and that’s looking much better. We just need to get to 270 regardless of what the popular vote does and the White House is ours again.

I’d love to see more of the map below a beautiful blue color, that would be the ultimate comment on the Republican administration of the last 7 years. With Bush’s approval rating so low (28% in CNN’s poll) I’m shocked that so many people are willing to vote for a third term with Republican McCain. Oh well, at least my state is a lovely royal blue on this map!

Remember, get out and vote, even if I think it’s wrong! It’s your right, your duty and your privilege – don’t waste it!

yes, Yes, YES! It is a popularity contest, indeed. Right here in the good ol’ US of A. Who would’a thunk it.

Oh, and just one more little sassy comment….
If those people in Florida would just vote for a black man, we’d have a much nicer margin for any errors. But, then again, hell may freeze over soon.

Lewis ~ it’s always been a popularity contest sadly. We do need Florida to wake up, that would be a nice change!

I’m thrilled beyond measure to see Michigan in the blue! You need to read my last two posts…I got all political even though I say I’m not going to! Hope your head is feeling better!

Hilly ~ all I can say is thank the bloody goddess that California is blue, oh so blue!

THANK GOODNESS I still live in a blue state. For now. ugh. Now I know how my parents feel. They moved from VT to FL during GWB’s first term, and now live in TN.

  8. This is exactly why I freak the hell out when people act like the election is sewn up one way or the other – we are basically roughly 50/50 because for every state oozing with the blue, there is another that is all about the red, and it could so go either way. Hard for me personally to internalize, but yep, it could. *shudders*

Poppy ~ I know, being in a blue state is a comfort
Maggie ~ exactly. The idea that it could go red again this time keeps me awake at night.

Now if we can just get Ohio and Florida to turn blue…

Cb ~ wouldn’t that be a dream come true.
