13 books I’ve read recently
Posted by Chris on 28 August, 2008
So it’s Thursday again, wow how does that keep happening? I’m totally unprepared for the awesomeness that is the Thursday 13 meme yet once again this week. I’m headed to an all day meeting today so won’t have time to pull out one of my more amusing posts this week (do I even read this blog? amusing my ass!) and won’t have time to visit many of you, so I apologize in advance.
This week I’m diverting from the great fun that we’ve been having with my user selected lists and giving you a boring, yet easy to throw together list. So without further blathering because I really need to get to that meeting I mentioned, here are the 13 books that I’ve read recently, in no particular order.
- Breaking Dawn ~ Stephenie Meyer
- The Dangerous Days of Daniel X ~ James Patterson
- The Judas Strain ~ James Rollins
- The Last Oracle ~ James Rollins
- Odd Hours ~ Dean Koontz
- Sail ~ James Patterson
- Sunday at Tiffany’s ~ James Patterson
- When You’re Engulfed in Flames ~ David Sedaris
- True Evil ~ Greg Iles
- Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? ~ Morgan Spurlock
- The Historian ~ Elizabeth Kostova
- Hold Tight ~ Harlan Coben
- The First Patient ~ Michael Palmer

Recently?
I’ve only read 4 books this entire year and one of them was Andrew Morton’s tell-all about Tom Cruise (couldn’t resist.) You make me feel illiterate but freshly motivated to read more.

Unfortunately, we can’t read down here in Oreeeguuunnn…

None of the above again.

Odd Hours is on my “I want it” list.

Christopher ~ illiterate hah, if I read less I’d sleep more
Lewis ~ exactly the reason I left!
Brian ~ there’s some good ones on there to try if you sish
Yummy ~ I love the Odd books!

I am dying to read the Oracle. I LOVE James Rollins.
Chris said
Tracy ~ Oracle was good good and I was very happy after some things that happened in the Judas Strain. Have you read his fantasy stuff that he writes as James Clemens?

I haven’t read any of the books on your list. Happy TT.

I think we have similar tastes in books. I adore Greg Isles and James Paterson! What do you think of the Stephenie Meyers books? I’ve been tempted by them but haven’t indulged yet.
I think I need to do this for my TT next week.
Chris said
Pussreboots ~they’re all pretty good
Original Grits ~ I liked the Meyers books, the last one was a tad bit disappointing, but still good. Isles and Patterson are great reads!

Great list. I love Dean Koontz though I haven’t read one of his books in a while. In response to your comment on my TT. Yes, your totally right boys had moon boots and banana seat bikes too. LOL!! Sorry about that. Happy TT and thanks for stopping by mine.

I make a goal for myself every year to read 50 books – quite a challenge with work, school and family life! Every one of the books on your list has either been recently read by me or is on my to be read list! Great minds do indeed think alike!

We obviously aren’t ’star-crossed’ lovers, HOWEVER…I do think we are literary twins that were separated at birth! All of the books on your list are ones that I’ve read or have written down To Be Read. I just finished Map of Bones by James Rollins and am looking forward to reading some more of his books.
Thanks for sharing!!!

So many books, so little time. That’s a great book list!
Thanks for visiting my list! Happy TT.

OK, so WHEN do you read? I feel like the slacker deluxe of the year compared with you. All I’ve read this year is Marianne Williamson’s three books, the Big Book, and The Kite Runner.
Maggie's Mind said
How is it that I’ve read none of these? I spend way too much time reading blogs to read books anymore, except maybe a book about blogs, or something…
Hope your meeting didn’t suck.
Chris said
Michelle ~ I have just about every book Koontz has written, I’ve been reading him for years
Poppingbubbles ~ great minds indeed.
Jewelz ~ we’re not star-crossed lovers? damn what am I doing wrong?
Madhouse ~ come on over and we can read together, in bed – or something like that
Joy ~ thanks for stopping by, the Historian was good – a bit dense in the beginning but good
Nicole ~ thanks! I agree too little time for all the good books.
NW ~ I don’t sleep much LOL. Actually I read at lunch and on my breaks and in the evenings before bed and on the weekends and whenever I can find a spare minute. I actually have been slacking this year.
Maggie ~ blogs do detract from the real thing unfortunately. Meeting suckage was 98%, but thanks anyway!

It seems like I’ve been seeing Stephanie Meyer’s books everywhere these days. If I had to pick one to start with, what would you recommend?
Chris said
Iron Fist ~ start with the first one Twilight, the four I’ve read are a series and it won’t make much sense if you don’t start at the beginning. Keep in mind it’s teen fiction…
Peter said
Both books by James Rollins, those are the books I read all night… the joy of early retirement.
Chris said
Peter ~ I have been known to do that as well

Because of the company for which I work, I’ve heard of nearly every one of the books on your list. However, I haven’t read any of them. The books that I mainly read (when I actually make the time to) are non-fiction and reference.
I hope that your meeting went well. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your week.
