Which head do you think with?

I am amazed that the gay hookup site Manhunt still has members, then again maybe I’m not. Men are not that good at using common sense when the little head gets involved. If there’s a chance that they might get it up and get it off they’ll do just about whatever it takes to achieve that goal. Gay men are notorious for using their libido instead of their common sense when it comes to making decisions. I’ll even admit to being guilty of that a time or twelve.
If you have a Manhunt account I encourage you to cancel it today in protest of Jonathan Crutchley’s political donation to John McCain. While I support his right to donate to the political candidate of his choice, I don’t have to agree with it. I don’t need to spend my money supporting the business endeavors of someone who disagrees so drastically with my values and beliefs. Crutchley defends his donation by saying in part:
“…I believe McCain will be a better Commander-in-Chief than Obama, who also opposes gay marriage. If we have an experienced, seasoned person defending the country in this dangerous age, we will be able to argue about the gay agenda later.” (quote & image from The Bilerico Project)
I would disagree with Crutchley, if McCain is elected it’s debatable that there will be a chance to argue the gay agenda at a later date. I’m of the mind that every step forward in the search for equal rights for all citizens of this country is a good step, even if it is baby steps. Obama might not support gay marriage which is the hot button topic right now, but he is much more supportive of the queer community overall than is McCain. Honestly, can you imagine another four years of the failed policies of the current administration both at home and abroad? You are fooling yourself if you think McCain’s presidency will be different than Bush’s in any significant factor.
Regardless of either candidates stance on queer equality we have to look at the bigger picture. Support for McCain is support for continuing war and aggression around the world. Support for McCain is support for taking away a woman’s right to reproductive freedom. Support for McCain is support for the rich, white, male upper class at the expense of the rest of this country. Support for McCain is support for a Supreme Court that is so conservative that no queer equality will be achieved for a generation and women’s rights will be decimated.
Cancel that Manhunt account today guys – they’re not the only hookup site out there. Give gay.com, adam4adam.com and Craig’s List a shot to start with, I’m sure there are others that I don’t know of out there.

Many people will say they are canceling their accounts for the reasons you ask – few will actually do it.
I wouldn’t cancel over this story, but you know… I don’t have one anyway. I’ll be honest with you, if no one else will.

Now where can I get myself one of those bumper stickers? I need one pronto.

Mike ~ I agree few will actually cancel, I would if I had one… Most guys can’t be bothered to actually follow through
Lewis ~ that would make a great bumpersticker

I’m a ’straight but not narrow’ woman who also happens to be an educator. I am completely against McCain for all sorts of reasons (thousands of reasons, actually)….not only because of his complete indifference to womens rights and gay rights, but also because of his policies regarding education. Bush created a complete cluster-fuck in public schools and McCain will do the exact same thing. Much to your way of thinking, I believe that while Obama may not be the “perfect” candidate, at least he seems open to ideas and that there may be room for some improvement in his policies. Hopefully he’ll not only see the light in regard to gay marriage, but will work toward achieving equality in public schools and quit measuring teachers by test scores (there are too many outside factors that teachers can’t control).
As always…LOVE your blog!

Jewelz ~ I’ve heard really horrible things about what Bush did to the education system in this country from my sister-in-law who is a high school teacher. There is no such thing as the perfect candidate in my mind, so we have to go with the one who’d the closest to our ideals.

I think the gay nazi thought police are scarey. Let people vote and support who they want to without ‘recriminations”, dont be a nazi.

Josh: Republicans are the Nazis, literally speaking, not the people who fight back against Republicans.

Josh ~ it’s obvious that you didn’t even read the entire post before you posted your comment, if you had, you would have a better understanding of the situation. While I support Crutchley’s right to donate money to McCain, I encourage the queer men who he makes his money from to quit thinking with their cocks and think with their brains for once.
Did you miss this paragraph?
“If you have a Manhunt account I encourage you to cancel it today in protest of Jonathan Crutchley’s political donation to John McCain. While I support his right to donate to the political candidate of his choice, I don’t have to agree with it. I don’t need to spend my money supporting the business endeavors of someone who disagrees so drastically with my values and beliefs.”
People are free to support and vote for whom they wish. Likewise I have the freedom to refuse to provide financial support to someone who so radically disagrees with my views. The main issue here is that Manhunt is a company providing a service to the queer community. It’s not too much to ask or even demand that they be supportive of the community from which they are making money.
Perhaps the Godless Liberal Homo can say it better than I can:
“…It’s not like Jonathan Crutchley’s support for a homophobic, neo-Nazi gang (the GOP) was a secret. Manhunt and it’s management knew that a portion of the profits of the company would go to promote discrimination and violence against gay, bisexual, lesbian, and transgender people, yet Manhunt falsely promoted itself as a pro-gay company. This is misrepresentation and a horrible breach of trust.
Businesses that make money off of the queer community have a moral obligation to support us. They certainly should be held accountable when they oppress us.
It’s time for guys to cancel their memberships and delete their profiles. Who can trust a company like Manhunt that has deceived and betrayed us so blatantly?…”
I do not now, nor do I plan in the future, to financially support a business, an individual or a political party that does not hold the same values that I do. My hard earned dollars will be spent supporting my community and supporting those political candidates that will advance my values. To do anything less is to betray myself.
