Attack of the Killer Vagina Sculptures!

Posted by Chris on 13 August, 2008

What do killer vagina sculptures, five gallons of Pinot Noir and me have in common? If your guess is a Saturday afternoon you nailed it. Bryan and I loaded up and headed south early Saturday morning, our destination was the sleepy little town of Lebanon OR – specificially La Ferme Noire.

La Ferme Noire's vineyards

La Ferme Noire is the farm owned by our friends Jim & Irina. Not only do they grow a fabulous garden, raise their own lamb and strive to return the land to native flora and fauna they also grow grapes and make their own Pinot Noir wine. They relocated to Lebanon from Seattle many years ago to enjoy the slower pace of life and we met them before we made the opposite migration. Over the years we have enjoyed many great times at the farm with great food and wine always a part of any visit. Jim used to own restaurants in a previous life and his cooking skills will put mine to shame, suffice it to say I’ve never had a bad bite of food that came out of their kitchen. The trip this weekend was to celebrate Jim’s birthday, I won’t say which one, but I will say that it’s a big one that ends in a zero. We joined about fifty other guests for a bbq and celebration Saturday afternoon.

Expecting a crowd and knowing that they were all serious wine drinkers, Jim & Irina put out a five gallon bottle of their Pinot Noir for our drinking pleasure. I’m happy to say that my glass was never empty and I showed my liver who was boss once again. That organ might just be looking for a new host body so if you have an extra liver laying around I might need it soon. By the end of the night there was less than half a gallon of wine left in the bottle! Entertainment for the guests was provided by a belly dancer, games of Bocce ball and a singer.

Where do the killer vagina sculptures work into the picture you might be wondering. Well, it’s simple really. Irina’s father was a well known German artist, Wilhelm Loth. His focus was the female form in all it’s glory with an emphasis on the vagina. A trip to La Ferme Noire is like a walk through an art gallery, there are amazing pieces hanging on the interior and exterior walls of the house and guest house. One such piece was hanging where the singer was performing and when she bent over and stood up she whacked her head on the art, not once but twice. The second time caused her head to bleed resulting in many bloody vagina comments.

It was a great party and a great weekend. I’m amazed at how much wine I drank, but when it’s that good how can I resist?  For even more  pictures of the amazing art by Irina’s father check out my Flickr photostream.

Sunday was consumed with the drive home, as expected it took longer than it should have due to the back up of traffic returning to the city. We stopped by Bryan’s sister’s place on the way home and she had some fresh crab for us that her husband had just caught. We enjoyed a lovely fresh crab salad and some nice wine Sunday night before returning to the weekly grind Monday morning. Hoping your weekend was a full of vagina’s as mine was!
