Pride was had!

Queer Pride ‘08 is finished, all that’s left to do is clean up the trash, put away the rainbow beads for another year, baby the sunburnt shoulders and nurse the hangovers. It was a hot day for the parade this year, and it made me remember fondly the years we sat in the rain to watch the parade go by. If we could only find a happy medium that would work out great.
Bryan, the CL and I met up with Whipp, Trixie & T-bone at the 5 Points bar and cafe (it’s been in that location since 1929 and the bathrooms smell like they haven’t been cleaned since) for breakfast. After a greasy breakfast and more alcohol than most small countries import in a year, we headed out to the corner of 4th & Vine to enjoy the parade. (Disclaimer – my liver is on strike so I abstained from the alcoholic activities all weekend, well except for one drink Friday night can’t let that damn liver rule my life – get back in there!)
The parade was great fun except for the baby fags and dykes sitting on the street just to the left of us. Not everyone smokes kids so if you want to smoke you need to get off your asses and move so that you’re not blowing smoke in our faces for the duration of the parade. Either I’m geting old or the heat is making me cranky!
*** (all the pictures except the one of Governor Gregoire were taken by me)***
Bryan and the CL waiting for the parade to start, can you tell they’re father and daughter?
The parade always starts with Dykes on Bikes.
Bad boys are put in their place before, during and after the parade…
Governor Christine Gregoire knows who a large part of her voting base is…
Boy, those Queer Eye guys have sure gone downhill.
Never, ever forget!
The mysterious and all knowing Flying Spaghetti Monster even put in an appearance.
Now this is a nun I wouldn’t want to cross.
We didn’t head over to Seattle Center this year for the festival. It was just too bloody hot to even imagine working through all those sweaty bodeis… wait did we make a mistake? Instead we headed back up into Ballard and went to La Isla for a late lunch and then headed home. We were joined there by Poff, one of our bestest friends and one of our few gay male friends (yes we have some Lewis!). Poff hung out with us for a few hours before meeting a friend for dinner. It was just the kind of pride I enjoy, relaxing and time spent with good friends. I always think that I’ll be up for the parties and the crowds and the booze and so on, I never am, but there’s always next year!
Hope your pride was as fun as ours was or if you weren’t celebrating, hope your weekend was great too!

I spent Pride with some of my favorite lesbians (The Indigo Girls) at the Zoo. Good times! But DAMN it was hot. TOO hot for my taste. I’m such a delicate flower, I wilt. Ha.
Glad you had a great day.

Yeah, but do they make brownies from the Betty Crocker box or from homemade scratch? I really am disappointed that we totally missed out on some sort of Pride activities this year.

Sizzle ~ I can’t hear the phrase delicate flower without thinking of you!
Lewis ~ Oh, I’m sure he makes them from a box… I’m about the only holdout for scratch that I know other than family.

It was insanely hot this past weekend, and some middle ground – 75-ish with sun – would be nice. Looks and sounds like a really great time. The real Flying Spaghetti Monster? Awesome and made me giggle.

Kyle ~ it was fun, just hot
Pussreboots ~ thanx
Maggie ~ Low 70’s and sun would be heaven. FSM has been showing up around town lately

My first Seattle Pride was wonderful. I didn’t attend the parade, I get too bored, but I did attend the festival. WOW what a great venue. Grass, a giant fountain to play in, lots of boths, plenty of refreshments, I would say ranks with the best. YAY Seattle Center. Stayed hydrated with water, but peeps were getting wasted. So nice to see all the young queer folks whooping it up. Bailed around 3:30 then off to Cactus down Madison. So much fun.

Sounds like Seattle Pride was a good time! Wish I could’ve been one of the ‘bad boys’ being put into place!

Jeremy ~ my thoughts exactly
John ~ sounds like you had a great time
Cb ~ um, isn’t that what you were doing in St. Paul this weekend?

Looked for you too although I don’t know what you look like:) We were at 4th and Denny at the end.
We had a wonderful hot time of it, and the Seattle Center would have been worth a pass had it not been for the fab sight of thousands of hot bodies soaking in and dancing in the International Fountain in various stages of inebriety and undress. Just the sight that makes fundies pray for us, and draws us in like flies on stink.

NW ~ I had my eye out for you b/c I know what you look like, on twitter at least. Sounds like we were within a couple of blocks of each other. We’re going to have to meet for coffee or drinks sometime…
