It’s a race to August!
Posted by Chris on 23 June, 2008
Our weekend was uncharacteristically busy this week and looking at the calendar nothing is changing for the upcoming weeks. Next week Bryan’s daughter visits for four days over the Queer Pride weekend, then it’s the fourth of July, followed by an annual bbq hosted by some friends, then a trip to Vancouver BC and finishing out July with a five day visit from Bryan’s sister. All things we’re really looking forward to, but I’m thinking we should have planned some time in between events to breathe. August is starting to get busy as well so maybe we’ll have some down time in September…
This weekend started out with a trip to the Fremont Solstice Parade, known mainly for the naked bicyclists, but surprisingly there were other attractions there as well. My favorite being the pink parade cop with the huge pink billy club.
From what I could see under that pink helmet he was actually pretty hot. Not sure how I’d feel about letting him use the billy club on me, but I’ll try anything once. Seattle skies didn’t provide much sunshine Saturday so it’s a good thing the parade provided some of it’s own. We were at the very tail end of the parade where it turns into Gasworks park and from our point of view it wasn’t that great of a parade. I think if we go next year we need to be more in the middle of the route to enjoy the full effect. From what I’ve seen on some other blogs and some Flickr streams we didn’t see the bulk of the parade. I must say that I was almost scarred for life by the nekkid bicyclists. Not only does the idea of a bike seat up my ass not seem too attractive or pleasant, every guy I saw was hung like a freakin’ donkey. Made me feel quite inadequate. Some of the bikers were quite original and painted their bodies to look like they were wearing clothes. There was one guy I had to really look at closely to realize it was body paint and not just really tight clothing.
From the solstice parade and fair we headed back to the house for disco naps. We were off to Daveattle 2 Saturday evening and we needed to be fresh and perky for such an illustrious event. The world famous Dave from Blogography gathered a fine group of bloggers from Seattle and beyond for an event of epic proportions. In attendance along with Bryan and I were:
- Dave from Blogography
- Dustin from Cotters in my Tummy
- Kristin from Kristin Wood Knits
- Matt from Matterdays
- Nicole from (insert blog name here)
- Patty from Practicing Patience!
- Scott from Scootersville
- Sizzle & the Fella from Sizzle Says
- Tracy from Kaply, Inc
- Vahid from Iron Fist
The evening began at the Six Arms on Captital Hill where drinks were enjoyed by most while we put on our name badges and adorned them with button bling. Pictures were taken and as you can see everyone was having a rocking time. The reason behind the good mood and festive atmosphere? Alcohol of course. I’ve only been to two blogger events, but both have seemed to involve copious amounts of booze. I wonder if you need to be a drunk to blog or if blogging makes you a drunk…
In the interest of saving our collective livers or quite possibly maintaining our ability to stand upright we decided to order food. I’m sure we were our waitress’ biggest nightmare, a 12 top of half drunk idiots wanting food and then needing to divide the check. She did a great job even though Dave never got his mayo and
I had to ask for my iced tea three times. Hey, even hardcore drunks need to pace themselves sometimes! We were really getting into the swing of the night when Kristin arrived bearing gifts for the entire table. Tattoo books were opened and soon everyone had some new ink to show off. Dave was a good guy and helped Bryan put on his tattoo with a steak knife.
After decimating the menu and traumatizing the waitress we continued to bs until some of the lightweights had to head home. Sorry Tracy, but I’m not sure dialysis is a good excuse for leaving early! Those of us without a life outside blogging then decided to leave the Six Arms for a new location, any location that served mixed drinks and was within walking distance.
We set out for a bar that I can’t remember the name of and that no one was sure of the location on so we just sort of wandered around in the Pike/Pine area until we saw Linda’s. Bells chimed, angels sang and we were certain we had reached Nirvanna or a close approximation thereof. Drinks were ordered and we continued the conversations. I was craving something salty (no not that) so I ordered a dirty vodka martini.
Gotta love Linda’s where your martini arrives in two, count them two glasses. You can never go wrong with a lot of martini! By the end of the night Bryan and Kristin were getting pretty darn chummy and I began to wonder if I needed to keep a closer eye on them then I thought. We finally called it a night and headed home, Bryan needed to get up early the next morning and all those drinks were starting to catch up with both of us.
Sunday dawned with Bryan and Trixie off to do some kayaking on Lake Union. I decided to stay home and enjoy a day of relaxation which entailed reading my book and taking a nap. Once Bryan got back from the kayaking trip I headed out to the grocery store for my weekly descent into hell. I left the store with only one question in my mind. Please, someone, anyone, explain to me why so many hot hot guys have such tragic girlfriends. Fred Meyer was full of grade A prime on the hoof yesterday, but it was all attached to the weirdest looking girls.
We closed out the weekend with a Sushi dinner with the entire crew to celebrate my birthday and our friend Nettie’s birthday as well. Sushi was ordered and as usual the plate in front of me looked like enough for a family of six. What can I say, I loves me some sushi. We headed home, watched some tv and hit the hay. Hope your weekend was as fun and entertaining as ours was!

It was great meeting you guys!
Where did you go to sushi? Did we discuss this at Linda’s and I just forgot? Because I had many cocktails. MANY.
I think blogging has made me a boozer. I totally blame the blogging!

Sizzle ~ hah we did discuss this at Linda’s but I’m not surprised you don’t remember. We were going to hit Kozue in Wallingford, but they were closed
so we went to Sam’s in Ballard which is a good standby.

A great time had by all, I see! Happy days ahead.

Sounds like you guys were having a great time. And I’m sure the waitress didn’t mind the craziness as long as you left her a great big tip at the end of the meal.

How sad is it that it took me four days to recover from Daveattle 2 and make my rounds through the recaps? Though, in many ways, it’s perfect timing. Because now I can remember all those things that I had forgotten due to the booze-induced haze that decided to take up residence in my head.
Good seeing you and Bryan again! It should be Daveattle every weekend!*
*Or not. Liver damage and all that…

Dave ~ I’ve found that a good punch to the liver will get it working again. Good to see you again too, looking forward to next time.
