It’s done…

Posted by Chris on 4 June, 2008

now the real fight begins. Congratulations to Senator Obama for clinching the Democratic nomination. He wasn’t my first choice, Edwards was. He wasn’t my second choice, Kucinich was. He wasn’t even my third choice, Clinton was. Regardless of those early choices, we now have a nominee to rally behind. It’s going to be a long campaign season if the primaries were any indication. Senator Obama is going to need each and every vote to beat Senator McCain. Those of us who believe that this country needs a change in direction must come together and work to get Senator Obama elected president. Do I agree 100% with Senator Obama’s platform? No, but I agree more with him than I do with Senator McCain. It will be a cold day in hell when you find a candidate that you can agree with completely and then I’m almost certain that they won’t be telling the truth about their policies.

How do we move forward now? I’d like to see Senator Clinton named as Senator Obama’s running mate. I think that would bring the party together and unite some of her more die hard supporters. If she’s not the veep candidate does that change my vote? No, there’s no way I would vote for Senator McCain and there’s no way I won’t vote in November. I’m not a fan of all the tactics either campaign used in the primaries, but I’m willing to forgive and forget to move forward. I can only hope that more of Senator Clinton’s supporters feel the same way. Without pointing fingers, I’m disappointed in several bloggers who I read daily who’ve made it clear that if Senator Obama doesn’t pick Senator Clinton as his running mate they won’t be voting for him come November. I’ve posted about this before and I still don’t understand how anyone can believe that helps change the direction of this country. Stamping your feet and holding your breath didn’t get you what you wanted when you were four years old and it’s not going to work now either.  It’s time to drop the petty differences and get behind the party, we have a nominee and he needs our support.  We’re going to take this all the way to White House and we’re going to need each and every vote to do it.

The primaries are over and now we need to focus on November.

I love the idea of an Obama/Clinton ticket but do you really think it can happen? Clinton just seems unwilling to take a “demotion” like that. I don’t know… but either way, I completely agree about the importance of backing Obama. SNL has had some great political stuff about these two lately–actually, McCain too. Have you seen it?

    Love the pride sticker, BTW.

Jen ~ I’m not sure that Hillary can rein here ego in long enough to take the “demotion” either. I haven’t seen the SNL stuff, we don’t watch it anymore so have missed it.

What? You’re kidding me. YOu mean that you were wrong on your first, second AND THIRD choices? A smart guy like you? Come on.

Lewis ~ actually I prefer to think of it as everyone else was wrong three times

I’m a happy girl, but you know Obama has been my pick. I still do not think Hillary would be a good choice for VP (*ducks*) because while the move could perhaps keep some of her supporters who would otherwise consider going to McCain (nutty, like you said), I don’t think there would be as many of those as there could be ones choosing to “vote against Hillary” even as VP and go to McCain. Some people really, really, really do not like her. At all. Not that I know anyone like that… :) It will be interesting to see what will happen, but I just hope to hell whoever gets in there fixes the big fucking mess we are in. Oops. I’m probably blaspheming to even say it, but even McCain would likely be an improvement – hope we don’t get to test that theory, though.

Maggie ~ you raise a good point in the fact that there are those who will vote against an Obama/Clinton ticket just because of the name Clinton. I don’t understand that, nor do I understand the absolute hate she can cause in people. She has her faults, but she can bring a lot of things to the party that Obama just can’t. *le sigh* Some people don’t deserve the democracy they have been given. (oh hell did I just say that out loud?) :)

I’d love to see Kucinich as the veep nomination, but hell will freeze over before that happens. Obama isn’t for *that* much change. LOL

Let’s hope we never have to find out if McCain will bring about the end times or if he’ll fix the absolute fucking disaster this country currently is.
