Where’d you get that car?

We’re a one car household and have been for several years, this usually works out fine since Bryan rides the bus to work and we go most places together. However, when one of us goes out of town (me this time) that leaves us with a problem that only a second car could solve. We tend to just rent a car for the person going out of town, cheaper in the long run since we don’t have the additional car payment and miles on our car.
We’ve been considering trading our 2002 Honda Accord in on a 2008 Toyota Prius so this seemed the perfect opportunity for an extended test drive. I’m picking up a Prius from Hertz this evening and will be driving it all weekend to see how much I like it. I’ll post my review next week…

I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. I just don’t think I can drive such a small car on the highway anymore. I’ll put my safety ahead of my wallet any day.
(I’m not saying the car isn’t safe… I’m saying the other drivers on the highway are not safe!)

Mike ~ my work friend S’s girlfriend drives one and loves it. The one I got from Hertz is the base model, but will give me a good idea of what they’re like to drive. I do like the fact that I sit up higher than I do in the Accord so far. I already drive a small car so that’s not really an issue for me. I’d love to go from 16mpg (the Accord is a V6) to 46mpg… I could live with that!

We solved the second car issue with a scooter. Love it! Of course we don’t take it on the free way. It’s mostly for tooling around Ballard, and for my commute to work. No extra car payment, and it costs $3.00 to fill it up with gas. The downside is it wont be something we use in winter.

I think it’s a great idea to test drive a rental before you invest money on the real thing. I have a couple of friends who have purchased them and they love it.

Nettie ~ I heard that you got a scooter, looking forward to seeing it. The only time we ever want a second car is when one of us goes out of town alone.
Shirley ~ probably won’t get the review up until later in the week, but it’s favorable.
Maddog ~ got the idea from my brother, he and his wife rented a van for the weekend that they were interested in buying.

We’ve always been (11 years) a one-car family. Works out fine most of the time.

And oh, by the way, thanks for letting me know you were in town.

Lewis ~ works out great for us most of the time, it’s the rare occurance when we need that second car so it makes more sense to use Hertz or Zipcar as necessary. Oh, I wasn’t in Portland I was in Salem for about 24 hours for my nephews bd party. The entire trip was consumed with family time. Next time I’m in Portland though!!!

Madhouse ~ can’t wait to trade the accord in. I have a friend at work who’s on the waiting list for a smart car here in Seattle. She’s been on the list since Dec 07 and is supposed to get her car in Sept 09.
