It worked out so well last time

Posted by Chris on 12 May, 2008

Walt Bayes, Idaho State House Republican candidate, wants to create separate restrooms and shower facilities within the schools for gay and straight students and faculty.

The topic came up after Bayes mentioned it in his campaign literature, where he wrote, “It is absolutely wrong to force any student to share the same bathrooms and showers with homosexual teachers or students.”

The Idaho Press-Tribune has the full story, but still unclear is how the candidate intends to identify which students should use which facilities. Perhaps to save money gay boys and lesbian girls could use the same separate facilities to avoid the need to create four separate restrooms. Would bisexuals be forced once and for all to choose a side? Since homosexuality is a choice, couldn’t we just force the students to choose the appropriate gender for their affections?

So many questions, so few answers.

Not surprisingly, Bayes’ opponents were quick to disavow any connection to the proposed “solution”.

One of Bayes’ opponents, Steve Coyle of Star, said he did not see the need for separate facilities for gays and straights in schools. Another candidate in the race, Jeff Justus of Meridian, said the proposal was not needed. “We have a lot more important issues than that,” Justus said.

  1. Kind of like separate water fountains for negroes?

Steve ~ nothing like a return of the good old separate but equal

As a heterosexual, germ-phobic male, I would propose two bathrooms for males/boys — one for everyone who is me, and one for everyone who is not me.

But seriously — Wow! This guy? In an election year? Wow…

Mrshiny ~ will you have your own special little soaps in there too?
