13 books I’ve recently read
Posted by Chris on 5 July, 2007
It’s Thursday yet again, so that can mean only one thing. It’s time for my 7th Thursday 13! This week I’m listing the last 13 books I’ve read since this post. As you might notice from the last four books in the list, I’m smack dab in the middle of the “great Harry Potter re-read of 2007″ in anticipation of the movie on July 11th and the new book being released on July 21st.
1. Black Order – James Rollins
Nazis, Aryan supermen, secret WW2 technology – fast read, hard to put down.
2. Book of Fate – Brad Meltzer
Presidential assassination attempt, disfigured faces, old friends returned from the dead – classic Meltzer, fast paced and catchy.
3. The Husband – Dean Koontz
Kidnapped wife, a dead stranger, a gardener in need of 2 million – Koontz at his best, twists and turns and plenty of surprises.
4. The Good Guy – Dean Koontz
Mistaken identity, a woman on the run – impossible to put down, again Koontz at his best.
5. The Overlook – Michael Connely
Terrorism, FBI conflicting with LAPD, nuclear poisoning – Harry Bosch saves the day and shows the FBI and his new partner why he’s still the number one detective in LA.
6. Mayflower - Nathaniel Philbrick
War, death, despair, hunger – an exciting look at the Plymouth Colony and what really happened on the shores of North America in the 17th Century.
7. The 6th Target – James Patterson
Kidnappings, public murders, a friend on the edge of death – the Women’s Murder Club to the rescue yet again.
8. Beach Road – James Patterson & Peter De Jonge
Murder, falsely accused teenagers, mystery – classic Patterson with a twist to shock.
9. Water For Elephants – Sara Gruen
Now one of my favorite books. A look at the carnivals from the early 20th Century from the eyes of a former carnival man. A murder mystery with a twist of surprise at the end. Don’t miss this one!
10. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone - J.K. Rowling
Harry discovers that he’s a wizard and the mortal enemy of Voldemort. With his friends Ron and Hermione he saves the wizarding world from disaster.
11. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets – J.K. Rowling
Harry returns to Hogwarts for his second year. Once again he saves the wizarding world from Voldemort and rescues a new friend as well.
12. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – J.K. Rowling
Harry’s third year seems no different, intrigue and danger surround the young wizard. New skills are gained and an important new ally is found.
13. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire – J.K. Rowling
Visions and painful scars lead up to Harry’s fourth year at Hogwarts. A new competition, new friends and even a ball await Harry in this adventure. A new friend is lost to Voldemort and the truth is revealed to the wizarding world.

Some good stuff on there! Keep on reading… hope you get the rest of the series read before the arrival of #7. Think Harry will survive?

i love book lists! my TT this week is about books too.
of the books you’ve listed here, i’ve read #8, 10, 11, 12, and 13. and #5 and 7 are currently on my TBR shelf. i’ve not read any Dean Koontz – i’ve thought they would be too scary – but maybe i ought to give them a try …

I just discovered Rollins’s “Black Order” and absolutely loved it. I’m looking forward to reading more of his books. I need to remember to pick up that Koontz book at some point—it sounds intriguing.
